Parents should know why their children misbehave. In many cases, children simply seek to get more attention. Various things in their lives may cause undue stress, such as bullying and other problems. Parents should immediately identify any misbehaviour of their children. They need to notice any developing pattern. Most of the time, giving children affection and full attention is already enough. When children misbehave, parents will only need to stop what they are doing and quickly attend to the needs of their children. Always check whether children have irrational behaviors and find the best methods to resolve that. Two common options are to punish bad behaviors and reward good behaviors. If you do nothing and are being indifferent, nothing will change.

When making any decision, you should be aware of both good and bad consequences. You need to correctly diagnose the situation and make sure that the reward and punishment are fully appropriate. If you make the wrong decision, it is possible that you will do more harm to your children. When children misbehave, it is likely that they only need parental guidance, instead of severe punishment. As an example, if children often scribble on the wall, then you may need to give them coloring books. In fact, there’s a possibility that the child has an interest in artwork. Through praise and encouragement, it is likely for children to grow more. Children should be motivated to behave properly and they should be rewarded for good behaviour. Rewards are not always material based. Genuine and sincere praise is already a very meaningful thing for children. Show to children that you appreciate all that they do.

Unfortunately, children will eventually make mistakes and to deal with this situation, parents should consider punishment strategies. Many times, mistakes are unintentional, due to incapability of children in completing tasks. If it is proven that children are incapable due to lack of skill or physical ability, then punishment is not necessary. In fact, punishing children for their limitations will be counter-productive. Children will think that they have been treated unfairly. However, if children openly oppose parents and show defiant behaviors, then punishment will be needed. When deciding on what punishment to give, parents must be realistic and fair. A punishment should be aimed to educate children and they should learn not to break rules again.

If children react in an aggressive manner, parents should avoid aggravating the situation. To defuse the situation, parents may need to walk away, because fierce arguments will only make things worse. Parents should remain calm at all times and when parents are finally able to subdue their anger, it is important to immediately resolve the situation. When children misbehave, parents need to show their trust. It is possible that children misbehave because they lack the confidence. When you reprimand your children, it is essential to remind them about their inappropriate behaviors. In the end, parents need to be a good role model, if they want children to behave properly. Never point fingers and always give solutions.
